The Essex Shire Horse Association brings together people who share a passion for heavy horses — especially the magnificent Shire horse. 

 

Whether you’re a lifelong horse lover or completely new to the world of heavy horses, this is a place to learn, get involved and be part of something special.

Our Committee organise a range of events throughout the year, including our flagship Annual Shire Horse Show, open to both members and the public.  It’s a brilliant opportunity to meet friendly, like‑minded people, discover new skills and help preserve one of Britain’s most iconic breeds.

A welcoming community

You don’t need to own a horse — or even have any experience. All you need is enthusiasm and a desire to support the future of our heavy horse heritage. Families, individuals and newcomers are all warmly welcomed.

What we do

Throughout the year, we host a variety of activities, such as:

• Our Annual Show – a highlight of the heavy horse calendar

• Social events – including quiz nights

• Summer barbecue – weather permitting

• Hands‑on opportunities – help at our show, even for an hour, and get involved behind the scenes

• Heavy Horse Lectures and Training Days

Membership fees

• Adult: £15.00

• Child (up to 14 years): £6.00

• Family (up to 2 adults + children up to 14 years): £30.00
